Is it possible to run funcs in host App from the widget without opening the App by Swift?

I would like to run funcs in host App from widget. Those funcs are method for making notifications or saving some data in host App's UserDefaults.

I know some Apps which can make a Badge on icon from the widget. The widget also detects action from Apple watch, so I thought those Apps are using host Apps function. Then those widgets don't even open host App. I'd like to make that, but how could I do this?
