I can't replicate this guy's image gallery from youtube

I'm making a css grid image gallery. I'm following this guy off youtube and it was all going well until i got here.

My codes the exact same except his result has all the images in squares and the same size, but my images take up the whole window. I even targeted all the images making there height and width 100% and object-fit: cover.desired result[![current result(I had to crop it because img was to big, but this is what the whole page looks like]2
