What are The Damages when a CDN got Hacked?

I was Reading about CDN service and how it works! , so i saw this article about how US army site got hacked by using this service :

so my question is , when hackers hacked a CDN service they can login to site ? and upload shell maybe ? or just hijack it , like DNS hijack attacks ??
