Mouse clicks don't work with RealVNC server for some applications, raspbian

I'm running realVNC server on raspbian (realvnc v6.3.2) When I connect from a client I can interact with the desktop no problem. With some applications, I find that the screen goes blank when launched.
I fixed this by checking the server option troubleshooting->enable experimental direct capture

The problem is, while this means that I can see these app in the VNC client (rather than a blank screen), I can't interact with them. The client mouse does not move the server mouse, and so it's not possible to click buttons in these apps.

Does anyone know if there is a solution?
