Can android VR and AR be used simultaneously with the back Camera to create Mixed Reality?

My friends and I are trying to create a mixed-reality app where we would require the following:

1. A person would put their VR on
2. They would see AR view through VR

Basically, it would be an AR app using VR to enhance live experience.

We did some research but could not find much online to confirm it.

Is this possible?
